Bhojpur District is one among the 38 districts in the state of Bihar and it is located in the eastern part of the nation. The district has the town of Ara as its administrative headquarters.  The district is spread over an area of 2474 km2 and the population of the district during the census taken in the year 2001 was more than 22 lakh people. The present district of Bhojpur came into being from the year 1992 and it was earlier a part of Sahabad District.

In the year 1972, the district of Sahabad was divided into two parts namely Rohtas and Bhojpur.
