Odisha Common Entrance Test is conducted for admission to 1st semester diploma in engineering /technology/ 1st semester or 1st year diploma in non –engineering or to 3rd semester diploma in engineering/technology under the scheme of lateral entry. Pass in HSC is the basic qualification required to attend the test. Qualified candidates can seek admission to diploma courses in any of the polytechnics in the state of Odisha.

Admission to First Semester Diploma in Engineering /Technology

Eligible candidate must have completed HSC course/10^th class with science and mathematics as subjects. They must have obtained with a minimum aggregate of 35% marks in the streams of maths and science. All Engineering except Mining & Drilling, lower age limit of the applicant is 14 years. In case of mining and drilling engineering, the minimum age required is 16 years. There is no upper age limit in both the cases.

Admission to First Semester or First Year Diploma in Non –Engineering

• Modern Office Management (MOM) – Candidates who have completed 12^th class in any of the streams like Science, Commerce and Arts from any of the recognized institutes can apply.
• Hotel Management & Catering Technology (HM&CT) – A minimum qualification of 12^th class in any of the streams such as Science, Commerce or Arts is essential to apply. Candidates need to obtain at least 35% marks in this level to apply for this 3 year course.
• Pharmacy – Eligible candidate must have completed 12^th class by scoring at least 35%. It is essential to study subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics as part of the study. The total duration for this course is 2 years.
• The lower age limit to apply for any of these courses is 16 years.

Admission to Third Semester Diploma in Engineering/Technology under Lateral Entry

Third semester diploma courses (Lateral admission for eligible branches only) – The duration of this course is 2 years. Candidates who have completed 12^th class in science stream from any institutes recognized by Council for Higher Secondary Education, Odisha are eligible to apply for this diploma course. Apart from this, those candidates who have studied 12^th class Vocational studies in engineering trades or else who have passed ITI course in engineering trades also become eligible to submit application for this course. The lower age limit specified to apply for this course is 14 years.
