The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) organizes a scholarship program for engineering students, pursuing the degree from any of the UGC/AICTE approved institutions. Selection of candidates is made at national and regional level. Three scholarships are given at national level and two scholarships are given at regional level. Scholarship amount given at regional level for first and second positions are Rs.40, 000/- and Rs.20, 000/- respectively. National level scholarship given for first, second, and third positions are Rs.75, 000/-, Rs. 60,000/- and Rs. 40,000/- respectively.

Eligibility Criteria for IET Scholarship

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) offers a scholarship program for meritorious students pursuing second, third, and fourth year of engineering. The scholarship is offered in two categories, general category and women category. Female candidates pursuing engineering can apply to both the categories. The institute from where the aspirant is pursuing engineering degree must be AICTE/UGC approved. Applicant must be free of backlogs at the time of submitting application and must have passed all the papers in a single attempt. A minimum of 60% marks is required in under graduation, till the present semester. In HSC also, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks. There is no age restriction.

Selection Process for IET Scholarship

Selection Process includes four stages

Stage I

Candidates eligible for scholarship are selected by considering factors like academics, extra curricular activities, outreach, and professional. Outreach includes activities other than institutional activities like organizing lecturers or seminars, coordinating and organizing industrial visits, and so on. Professional includes membership in professional bodies and coordinating their activities. Weightage given to each of the factors for selection are as follows.

  • Academics – 60%
  • Extra & Co-Curricular – 20%
  • Outreach – 10%
  • Professional – 10%

Stage II

Candidates short listed through the first stage of selection process are asked to attend an online test. There will be approximately 40 questions. Questions for the test are asked from the following topics.

  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical & Electronics
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

A specific cut off marks are decided for each region by the regional jury. On the basis of cut off marks, candidates are short listed for the second level.

Stage III

The Regional Level Assessment happens at the third stage of selection process. Applicant is asked to give a presentation on the topic given by the Jury members. The topic given will be of societal challenge and will have current relevance. The topic will be intimated to the aspirant at least 10 days in advance and this helps candidates to prepare well in advance.

Stage IV

National Level Assessment is carried out at this stage. Assessment process is done on the basis of a presentation made by the candidate regarding an engineering problem, relevant to the society. Candidate must specify their vision and solution regarding that particular problem and must answer the questions by the Jury after presentation. Usual venue for this assessment process is New Delhi. Those who got selected will have to get through a GD session, as part of the final selection process.
