Every year the exam is conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, established in 1958. The Council exists not for any purposes of profit but with the sole motto of promoting science, literature and fine arts in the country.

The exam pattern for the biology exam is given below:

The paper consists of two papers. Paper I is theory paper of 3 hours duration. Total marks are 70. Paper II is practical. This is also of duration of 3 hours and carries a total of 20 marks. There has been included one project work of 7 marks and a practical file which carries 3 marks.

Paper I:

There is only one paper divide in 2 parts. Time duration is 3 hours.

Part 1 carries 20 marks. It consists of mandatory short answer questions. These questions are aimed at testing the application, skills and knowledge of the candidate relating to all aspects of the full syllabus.

Part 2 carries 50 marks and is divided into two sections-A and B. from section A three out of five questions are to be answered and from section B two out of four. Each question carries 10 marks.

Paper II:

This is a practical exam. Experiments are to be performed as prescribed in the syllabus.
