Insitute of Mathematical Sciences was established in the year 1962 by the Government of India. The institute was actually founded by Alladi Ramakrishnan. The institute is considered as the national institution for fundamental research in the mathematical and physical sciences. A Board and an Academic Council has been assigned or formed for governing the institute. Professor R. Balasubramanian is the director of the institute. Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu supports the research work that is performed in the institute.
