Diploma holders in Automobile Engineering can go for either A.M.I.E certification or B.Tech in Automobile Engineering. A.M.I.E certification is much more suitable for diploma holders as it require quite less hard work compared to B.Tech course. To earn A.M.I.E certification, diploma holders need to study only 13 subjects. But if they pursue B.Tech in Automobile Engineering, then they have to study all the subjects in whole six semesters. If diploma holders have keen desire for campus placements, then B.Tech course is better for them.

A.M.I.E after Diploma in Automobile Engineering

Diploma holders in Automobile Engineering can earn Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (A.M.I.E) certification after qualifying the Section A and Section B examination conducted by Institution of Engineers (India). This certification is equivalent to B.E/B.Tech degree and it takes four years to pass the two sections. But diploma holders require only 3 years to pass these sections, as certain subjects are exempted from the Section A examination which is a common paper. They can carry out the project work after passing minimum five subjects in Section B examination. It is possible for them to select any of the engineering branches specified in Section B.

After obtaining this certification, one can apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) to pursue M.E/M.Tech course. Regional Engineering College Warangal, Government Engineering College Jabalpur, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College Allahabad, Manipal Institute of Technology are some of the reputed institutes which offer M.E/M.Tech course for the aspirants having A.M.I.E and GATE score. A.M.I.E holders can even pursue these postgraduate courses at IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras etc., if they possess adequate GATE score.

With A.M.I.E certification, one can write Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) and Indian Engineering Service (IES) exam to get into post of IAS officer, Assistant Engineer, Executive Engineers in government departments. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and NTPC Limited are the public sector undertakings which recruit A.M.I.E holders with valid GATE score.

B.Tech (Automobile Engineering) after Diploma in Automobile Engineering

On successful completion of diploma course in Automobile Engineering, one can join Bachelor of Technology course in Automobile Engineering through lateral entry scheme. The benefit of lateral entry scheme is that the diploma holders can get admission directly to the second year itself. Thus they need to study only the subjects in six semesters rather than eight semesters.

Those who have completed B.Tech course in Automobile Engineering can pursue M.E./M.Tech course in prestigious technical institutions like IITs, NITs etc. But they have to obtain adequate score in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). It is possible for them to pursue Post Graduate Diploma in Management or Master of Business Administration in top B-Schools like IIMs, Xavier Institute of Management, Symbiosis Institute of Management etc. In that case, the candidates need to qualify exams like Common Admission Test (CAT), Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) or Management Aptitude Test (MAT). Certain management institutions like Symbiosis Institute of Management conduct their own entrance tests for the admission to postgraduate courses in Management.

B.Tech holders in Automobile Engineering can pursue their career as Automobile Engineers in automobile companies like Tata Motors, Hindustan Motors, Ashok Leyland Maruti Suzuki etc. They can also find the job of Junior Research Fellow in Vehicles Research & Development Establishment of Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO).

Best option after Diploma in Automobile Engineering

If the candidates want to join B.Tech in Automobile Engineering course through lateral entry scheme after diploma in Automobile Engineering, then they need to obtain minimum of 60% marks for the diploma course. No such marks restriction is there for obtaining A.M.I.E certification after diploma in Automobile Engineering. Another advantage of A.M.I.E certification is that the candidates can select any of the engineering branches available in the Section B examination according to their wish. Thus it is possible for the diploma holders in Automobile Engineering to select Computer Science or Electronics branch. While considering all these benefits, A.M.I.E certification is the best option after diploma in Automobile Engineering rather than B.Tech in Automobile Engineering.
