Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducts recruitment drive every year to screen eligible candidates for the post of Sub inspector / Constable. There are various components of recruitment process which candidates have to clear for joining RPF.

Recruitment Process of RPF Exam

The selection process to RPF includes different stages like

  • Written Examination
  • Physical Efficiency Test
  • Physical Measurement
  • Viva-Voce Test
  • Documents Verification
  • Medical Examination

The written examination will include 120 objective type questions which have to be answered within 90 minutes. The questions asked will be that of matriculation level. 1 mark will be allotted for each correct response and ¼ marks will be reduced for the wrong ones. The pattern of question paper will be as given below.

Part I (35 questions)

  • General Intelligence
  • Logical Reasoning

Part II (35 questions)

  • Arithmetic Reasoning

Part III (50 questions)

  • General Awareness

Those scoring at least 35% (30% for SC/ST candidates) in the written exam will be called for next recruitment stage. In Physical Efficiency Test, the candidates have to showcase their talent in various events including 1600mts/800mts run, Long Jump and High Jump. The Viva-Voce Test will include questions to evaluate the candidates’ general intellect, consciousness, attentiveness and other soldierly mannerisms.

Qualification Details for RPF Exam

Those applying for RPF exam should have passed their matriculation or equivalent from a recognised board. The applicants should also be in the age limit of 18 to 25 years. However, there will be relaxation in age for backward category candidates. Apart from these qualifications, the candidates also have to satisfy the physical standards as mentioned below.

For male candidates

  • Height: for UR/OBC category - 165cms, for SC/ST category – 160cms, for Hillman category – 163cms
  • Chest:  for UR/OBC category – Unexpanded - 80cms & Expanded – 85cms, for SC/ST category – Unexpanded - 76.2cms and Expanded – 81.2cms, for Hillman category – Unexpanded - 80cms & Expanded – 85cms

For Females candidates

  • Height: for UR/OBC category - 157cms, for SC/ST category – 152cms, for Hillman category – 155cms

How to apply?

The aspirants can download the application form which is made available in the official website of Indian Railways, www.indianrailways.gov.in. Fees of Rs. 40/- has to be paid either by means of bank draft or via Indian Postal Order. The backward category candidates as well as the Ex-servicemen are exempted from fee payment. The completed application form along with required enclosures have to be sent to the Nodal Chief Security Commissioner of the respective district before the cutoff date.
