Planning Commission is a govt. body which was set up in the year 1950. The major functions of the commission are to assess the material, resources and capital of the country, formulation of plans, finding the factors leading to the retardation, utilization of resources etc. The areas covered by it are power, irrigation, transport, infrastructure, rural development, education, agriculture etc.  

Job profile: The adviser will be required to work in different departments like power, irrigation, project appraisal and monitoring power. They will be required to supervise the appraisal of investment proposals in the field of transport, tourism, ports, shipping and communications, to formulate annual and five year plans for central and state power sectors, technical and economical approval of irrigation, flood control projects etc.

Eligibility: A candidate must not exceed the age of 56 years. However, relaxation can be claimed as per the rules.

Educational Qualifications: For adviser (project appraisal) – A candidate must possess a Master’s degree in science/economics/statistical operations research/business administration with a minimum of 10 years experience. For adviser (power) and (monitoring power) – A candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or a Master’s degree in physics/chemistry/mathematics with a minimum of 10 years experience. For adviser (irrigation) – A candidate must posses a degree in civil engineering with a minimum of 10 years experience.

No. of posts: There are 4 posts in total which include 1 post in each of the four departments.

Pay scale: The advisers will be given a pay scale of Rs15600-39100 plus a grade pay of Rs7600.

Selection process: The candidates will have to appear for an interview.
