Difference between University Grants Commission and (UGC) All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)
The University Grants Commission is a legal body set up by the Union Government. It as founded in the year 1956. The aim of this body is to determine, uphold as well as coordinate the educational standards of Universities. The All India Council for Technical Education was founded in the year 1945. It was set up by the Ministry of Human Resource and the Development Department of Higher Education. It is a legal body. It is mainly concerned with the planning and also setting up of the system of technical education in our country.
University Grants Commission (UGC)
Shri. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated UGC. He was then the Minister of Resources and Scientific Research. It is the University Grants Commission that carries out the NET exam for the recruitment of Lecturers and teachers in colleges. In addition to this, it also grants recognition for Indian Universities. Moreover, it also gives funds for Universities as well as Colleges that are recognized by the Indian government.
All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)
The sphere of the AICTE comprises of technical education. In addition to this there is research as well as training in the disciplines of Engineering, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Architecture as well as Applied Arts and Crafts. Other streams like Technology, Pharmacy, Management and Town Planning are also included.
Key differentiators between UCG and AICTE
Both the AICTE as well as the UGC has a major role in Indian universities and colleges. One of the chief differences between the two is that the AICTE is a regulatory body. While the UGC is about the enforcement of educational standard in universities, the AICTE is concerned with the standards of technical education in the colleges. Whilst the institutions of technology come under the AICTE, the rest of the universities are affiliated to the UGC
