One can join Indian railway through Civil Service Examination and Combined Engineering Service exam. Apart from these two examination, one can also appear for Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination (SCRA) which is one of the most prominent exam for railway and it is A-grade level exam .
The advertisement of these examination are published in all leading newspapers including Employment News. The eligibility for each examination depends upon the nature of the job. most of the time the written examination to recruit in indian railway is conducted by UPSC. visit their website http://www.upsc.gov.in you will get information regarding this. The UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) and the Central Government conducts the railway recruitment examinations for various posts.

RRB conducted different railway exams all Indian basis to recruit students for different sections in Railways.. List of those railway entrance exams:- 1.Railway technical cadre exam 2.Railway Non technical cadre exam 3.RPF-Sub inspector/constable exam You can go for any of these exam depending on your qualification.. As you are doing engineering so you can appear for IES after completion of your course. IES exam is conducted by UPSC every year. After getting good marks, you can join Indian railway as an assistant engineer. After the promotions you can become GM, DRM, CHAIRMAN of the railway board etc. You can also join Indian railway by passing civil services exam.after getting good marks you can join Indian railway as IRTS official. There are various type of examination for Railways for clerical and officers job. For technical Railways job SCRA is conducted by UPSC.
SCRA - SPECIAL CLASS RAILWAY APPRENTICE is an entrance exam conducted by UPSC once every year for recruitment of SCRA in Mechanical Department of Indian Railways. The eligible candidate should complete 12th standard or graduation degree with good marks with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics within the age of 17 to 21 years from a recognised University is eligible to apply for SCRA. Yes you can get into the Railway Job after the 12th class from CBSE Board and the procedure for that is explained below. So the jobs in the Indian railways are great and Railway Exams are basically conducted by Union public service commission (UPSC) and Railway Recruitment Board(RRB).The entry is done through three different channels:
There are two departments in INDIAN RAILWAYS and they are: 1)TECHNICAL DEPARTEMENT 2)NON-TECHNICAL DEPARTEMENT So the selection is done by RRB's for the 12th pass candidates and for some posts it is Graduation so you can check that on the websites of the RRB's and they are:

As you are a student of Electronics & Communication Engg.,then you are able to get chance to sit in Railways entrance exam for jobs in Technical post.
