Firstly it depends on your interest. Go for the stream whichever you like as both the streams are entirely different.
But if you want greater salaries and.promotions quickly then go for IT/CSE rather than mechanical.
There are companies like Google, Facebook, Yahoo , Amazon, Microsoft etc etc purely named as IT companies offering salaries over 10-15 lacs and even in crores if you are from super reputed college. Also life style is much better if you prefer cse.
And for kind information of everyone posting wrong info here- IT has atleast 4 times more jobs for freshers as compared to Mech.
Think twice, consider your interest and work accordingly.

Its all depend on your interest and knowledge but these day Mechanical engineering has more scope than computer science. There is great demand for skilled mechanical engineers in different segments of the industry.
