About UPSC Civil services Examination -

Civil services examination are Conducted by UPSC every year and the examination was conducted in 2 stages, Preliminary and Mains.

Preliminary examination are also known as CSAT (Civil services aptitude test).

Firstly you have to cracked the Preliminary examination only then you are appear for the Main examination, Main examination was Descriptive and you have to choose the Optional subject for Main examination, But preliminary examination was Objective and there are 2 papers in preliminary examination.

Eligiblity Criteria -

>> You must have completed your Graduate degree course in any discipline form a recognised university.

>> Final year graduate candidates are also eligible for CSAT Examination.

>> No minimum percentage is required to apply for CSAT because any graduate passed candidate are eligible.

Age Eligiblity -

To apply for this examination your age should not be less than 21 years and not more than 30 years.

Upper age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC Candidates.

For SC/ST Candidates - 5 year Relaxation is applicable

REQUIREMENTS FOR IPS EXAM

IPS exam is conducted by UPSC. There are some criteria you have to follow for appearing in IPS exam.

Those candidate have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university are eligible for IPS exam.

But your age should be in between 21-30years for general candidate.
In IPS exam their is provide age relaxation for OBC candidate is 3years and for SC/ST candidate is 5 years.

IPS or the Indian Police Service is one of the most prestigious services in India at par with or next only to the IAS. Along with IAS, IFS (Indian Forest Service), the IPS is also an All India Service (AIS) so the person selected for the IPS may have to serve in any part of the country.

Its is organized and conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) once in a year.


The Basic Eligibility Conditions to become an IPS officer are ::-


-> You must be a graduate in any stream with a minimum 50% aggregate in it from a recognized college or university

There is no specific IPS entrance exam.

IPS-INDIAN POLICE SERVICE, to become an IPS officer you have to appear and crack Civil Service exam conducted by UPSC once evry year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for SC/ST candidate up to 5 years and for OBC candidate up to 3 years.

There are certain Physical standard to overcome for those applying for IPS.

The Height should be at least 165cm for Genaral male and that to 150cm for female candidate and for ST/ST/OBC male candidate it should be 160cm and that to for female candidate it should be 145cm.

The chest of the male candidate should be 85cm that to female should be 79cm and expandable to 5cm for both the cases.

The eligibility criteria for IPS exam.....

1.Age limit

21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs . Ex-servicemen will get 5 more years exemption from the prescribed age limit The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation.


2.Number of Attempts

Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

3.Exam Pattern :

All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprises of two successive stages:

Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination.

Main Examination: It consists of written examination and interview.

The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November. One must begin preparations of the main exam along with preliminary exam. This is because there is little time for the Main exam if one waits for the results of the Preliminaries.

If you haven't already applied for the Civil Services Examination then you will have to wait till next year. The forms for the Civil Services Examination are released between January and March.

Therefore if you haven't applied yet, wait till next year and use this time to prepare for the exam. You should read a lots of newspapers and magazines. At the same time watch news.

If your English is not good, this is the time to work on it. Even though you can give the exam in Hindi, there is a paper for English language for which you must understand English well.

I will also recommend the NCRET books of Class 12th to you. In addition you should download sample papers from internet and try solving them.
