john, first i want to say in market no specific book available. i have already given sail technician exam, as experience i say first read your technical book whose trade have done in I.T.I. after that you prepare a notes on that really support to you.
exam pattern of sail for technician trainee;
100 question comes in sail exam.
>> 50 question are in technical knowledge.
>>and other 50 question comes from reasoning, numerical , general knowledge, English verbal. that question are very simpal pattern.
so if you practice well that clear any technical exam.
for numerical question you want to prefer; the achievement of numerical
LUCENT GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, here also i am providing some question and answer like pattern.

i am providing a syllabus as i knowledge after participating sail trainee exam.
total no. of question is 100

before exam when your admit card delivered to you by sail a sample paper also with admit card. so prepared for sail now according to your technical book and above subject. here i am also providing a some book name.

-->Technical-It will be in mainstream subject like
-Mechanical concepts-Mechanical,Automobile,Production etc
-Electrical Concepts-EEE,EIE,I&C etc.
-Electronics concepts-EEE,ECE,EIEetc.
-Civil Concepts-Civil,Structuraletc.
-->Aptitude-THis is time consuming so be careful in selecting questions. Prefer to do it last
-->Current Affairs-Easiest section of all, try to study important concepts for the last six months.

SAIL exam does not need any additional coaching classes. It is mandatory to understand the technical concepts as it will be tougher. Other things has to be periodically revised so that ou dont forget and study new things. CAT level-2 preparation will be more than enough for Aptitude.
