i am a btech passout in the stream electronics and communication.i am interested in joining merchant navy.do they recruit electronics engineers and if so how do i get about applying for merchant navy.
plz help.

Age limit: 17-21
Selection is basedon the Joint entrance examination(JEE) given by the IIT followed by an interview.The director general of shipping has the authority to chose whch of the 2 training programmes the candidate is best suited for.

There are two possible ways to join the engineering department of Merchant Navy.

1. By pursuing bachelor's degree programme in marine engineering.

The minimum qualification to pursue the course is +2 with PCM from a recognised institute.

Institutes offering these courses are

The Training Ship chanakya, Mumbai
Marine Engineering Research institute, Kolkata/Mumbai
Directorate General of shipping, Mumbai
The Institute of Technology and Marine Engineering, West Bengal

2. Through direct entry as Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer.

A graduate in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering can join as Engine cadet/Junior Engineer after going through a pre-sea course conducted by the MERI. The duration of the pre-sea course is 9 months.
Engine cadet is the entry level of engineering candidates and for further promotion, the candidate has to write the examination during the service period. The examination is conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS),

you can just fill form out by the marchent nevy every year.by crossing it you can be selected for it.

A person having B.Tech in ECE can not join Merchant Navy.You can only join Indian Navy.If you had done your B.tech in Electrical you could have made it no Merchant Navy.
But one institute undermentioned take ECE students:
Applied Research Maritime Institute,New Delhi.

Yeah sure a b.tech ECE passout student could easily get a job in merchant navy.Since a ship use to travel in open sea and communication is an essential part for the ship's safety. So ECE students are in high demand. For that you could surf for the sites of many shipping companies or you could go for sites like "www.jobships.com" or "merchant-navy-jobs.blogspot". Here you could gain some knowledge of the vacancies. these companies usually take an interview and let you have thier training. After that you would be posted on any of their ships.

For the merchant navy A graduate in Mechanical/ Electrical/ are eligible.

but you have done the diploma im information technology,

so you are not eligible for the merchant navy exams.

The candidate has to write the examination during the service period.

The examination is conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping.

No friend apart from Mechanical and Electrical Engineering student no one can join Merchant Navy but applied reasearch maritime institue is exceptional case.
