Of course you can go for Merchant Navy as a ECE student if you can fulfill all the criteria .
Eligibility criteria -

1. 12th with at least 60% marks .
2. 12th with PCM .
3. Age limit = 19 to 23 years .
4. Candidate should be unmarried and male .

To get admission you have to qualify in the entrance test and interview session . Then you have to go through three years pre-sea training course organized by Ministry of Shipping .

For joining Merchant Navy you have to give the exam conducted by them and score good marks or to clear it.
And after the written exam the interview is also held both Physical and Mental.
After clearing all this only then you can get job in Merchant Navy.

There are two ways through which one can join Merchant Navy which are as follows:

-After 10+2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics as deck cadets in Merchant Navy.

-After Bachelor in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering from a Recognized University as a Engineer in Merchant Navy.

The selection will be based on the written examination, Physical fitness test and medical examination.

You must have very good eyesight and should not have color blindness if you want to join Merchant Navy.

Physical fitness should be according to Merchant Navy norms. The height and weight must be proportionate according to Merchant Navy rules.
