Dear friend,

Sorry to say that 2 nd year student are not eligible for GATE exam.

3rd and 4th year student are eligible for GATE exam.

Because GATE score is valid for two years.

You can apply here maximum times because GATE exam have no age criteria.

Eligibility for GATE exam:-

1.One must have complete the bachelor degree in the fields like Engineering/Technology/architecture..
Or,
2.One must have complete the master degree in the fields like- M.Sc/MCA/MBA..

3.One can appear in GATE exam during the pre-final year or final year of your graduation or post graduation course..

4.There is no age limit.

5.No number of attempt restriction.

As you are in 2nd year of your B.tech course then you are not eligible for GATE exam..
You can appear in GATE exam next year when you will be in 3rd year..

sorry you are not eligible for gate exam because of that you are a 2nd year b.tech student and gate score valid for 2 years you can start study for gate exam for next year beause from 3rd year you will eligible for gate exam

Information Regarding GATE Examination.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted by the management of IIT college for the admission in the M.Tech course at IIT college. Many other college also take admission in the M.Tech course through the GATE score card. I inform you that there are some change in the GATE-2012 examination.

NOTE :- The pre-final year candidates are not eligible for the GATE-2012 examination. Only final year and pass out candidates are eligible for the GATE-2012 examination.

So, if you are a 2nd year student of B.Tech course then you are not eligible for the GATE-2012 examination. You will be eligible in the final year of B.Tech course. Dear friend,
Till the last year i.e. GATE 2011 even the 3rd year candidates were allowed to appear in the exam.
But from the next GATE (i.e. to be held on 2012) only the final year students are able to appear.
It has become a mandatory rule.
The 3rd year students are not even allowed to sit for the exam.
So, you have to wait till your final year as per the rules.

till 2011 there is a chance for 3rd year students to appear for gate examination..................... but according to new criteria only 4th year students are eligible for gate exam.......
