iam 2nd year diploma student can i give iit exam....please tell me can I do it

Yes you can appear in IIT JEE examination after completion diploma of engineering or in last year of diploma. Through this examination you will be able to take admission in IIT in first year of engineering like a 12th pass students. You can choose any branch of engineering irrespective of your branch of engineering in diploma. But it will be better for you if you choose the branch in IIT related to your branch in diploma.

There is no lateral entry seats in IIT. So you can not take admission in IIT directly in second year of engineering in any way. The only way to take admission in graduation course of engineering is to clear the IIT JEE entrance examination. IIT JEE examination is little bit tough examination and competition is very high. You must be well prepared before appearing in the examination.

Beside this examination you may appear in Lateral Entry Entrance Test(LEET) to take admission in second year of engineering on other engineering colleges. This is state level examination. If you can clear this examination then through counseling you will be able to choose college from your state to take admission in second year of engineering. It will save your one year. To take admission in NIT appear in AIEEE examination.

As you are interested for IIT then you should appear IIT JEE and LEET examination. If you crack IIT then sureky you should take admission in any IIT because IITs are the best institution in India for technical study. But if you fail to take admission in IIT then you may take admission in other engineering colleges through LEET. Best of luck.

If you have done your Diploma degree from a recognized AICTE university or from a state technical university of at least three years then yes you are eligible to give this exam.

Even final year students who have given their 10+2 exam can apply for this exam.

An aggregate of 60 percent is required to sit for this exam. Its 55% for the SC/ST and physically handicapped students.

You are allowed to give this exam for two consecutive times. You cannot take a year gap in between.

IIT JEE will go through major changes in 2013 as they want to take some pressure off the shoulders of young kids.

From 2013 they are planning to give special importance to class 12 exam result as well.

A 50-50 importance will be given to the board exam result and the entrance exam result.

At present there are 15 IITs in India.

IIT-jee of LEET

You can definitely do that after completing the diploma course. However there is one drawback. You will not be able to take admission in the second year as done via lateral entry admission scheme.

As for now Indian Institutes of Technology do not offer the lateral entry admission. You will take admission in the first year of B.Tech. Same rule will also apply if you took admission for National Institutes of Technology. Here too there is no lateral entry scheme.

If you do not mind that then you can appear for the IIT entrance exam. Please remember that IIT-JEE does not take place anymore. It has been replaced with Joint Entrance Exam (JEE).

The Joint Entrance Exam is the new format which has replaced AIEEE and IIT-JEE. To apply for admission in IIT, you will have to clear both stages of JEE entrance exam.


JEE Eligibility

1. You should have finished 12th standard.

2. Subjects should be Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

3. Diploma holders from AICTE recognized colleges can also appear.

4. There is no percentage criteria.

5. You must be less than 25 years old to apply.

6. The relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST.

7. You will first appear for the JEE Mains.

8. Only top 150,000 will go ahead to appear for JEE Advanced.

9. After clearing JEE Advanced you can apply for admission in IITs.

10. You will get 3 consecutive attempts to clear JEE.
