Dear friend,From last year the pattern of preliminary exam of IAS is changed.IAS(indian administrative exam)is conducted to recruit IAS,IPS,IFS officials.Every year nearly 2.5 lakh members compete for nearly 700 vacancies. There are three stages in IAS exam.1.Preliminary 2.Main 3.Interview.When you qualify the first stage you will proceed to second and then to third stage.Performance in main exam and interview decides your qualification into the prestigious post.Actually from last year preliminary exam's pattern is changed.First stage of ias exam is CSAT which test applicants understanding rather than testing applicants knowledge.CSAT has questions from general studies and aptitude.FROM LAST YEAR THERE IS NO OPTIONAL PAPER in preliminary exam. However you can choose psychology at the main exam. All the best for your future. For more information logon to iasexams.com and www.upsc.gov.in

Dear pal,
the aspirants competing for the post are high so a good preparation is required to crack the exam. The various selection stages in the exam are
common aptitude exam
main exam
personnel interview
the aptitude exam is common for all the aspirants who are appearing for the exam. Those who are clearing as eligible for the next stage which is the main exam. The aspirant can choose the subject which they feel comfortable they can choose their degree subject or any other . There is no necessary that the aspirant need to choose that subject. Followed by clearing the main exam then the aspirant will be called for the personnel interview .
Their are many subjects available for the aspirant to choose in the main exam. As you wish to chose psycology you can chose it as one of your optional subject.
