I would like to know if I have completed my masters degree via distance education, would I still be eligible to apply for net or is it essential to complete masters through regular course?

The eligibility to appear in the NET exam is to have a Master's degree in the general study courses with at least 55% marks from a recognized university.

So if your distance education institute is a recognized one then you can apply for this exam.

Eligibility for CSIR UGC NET entrance examination:
You Must have a M.Sc. or equivalent degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks And the final year Students of M.Sc. are also eligible to appear in CSIR NET exams.

Age Eligibility Criteria -

For Junior Research fellowship – You must be between 19 –28 years of age.

For Lectureship – There is no upper age limit. You should be at least 19 years of age.

If you have given your master degree from UGC recognised university,than ofcourse you are eligible for NET.Either be a regular course or distance learning course you must have done in from UGC recognised institute.

Ho yes you are eligible for NET exam being a candidate of master degree holder in distanc education.

Generally net exam is conducted by the UGC(UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION) twice in a year.

For this you have to complete master's degree with atleast 55% of marks from any recognised university.

5% of marks relaxation for the SC/ST candidates.

There is no age limit for the Lecturship, but the Junior research Fellowship minimum age is 19 years and maximum age is 28 years.

No you are not eligible to teach anywhere with NET and distance degree. (UGC rule). Even an undergraduate can appear in NET as UGC doesn't verify documents.

A distance education or correspondence post graduation degree will not hamper your chances to appear for the National Eligibility Test. University Grants Commission allows distance education degree holders to also appear for the National Eligibility Test.

However you need to ensure that the college from where you have completed post graduation is recognized. Please see if it is recognized by the University Grants Commission or not.

National Eligibility Test as you may know is conducted for the college lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship. It is conducted in June and December. So if you have completed post graduation then better apply for the National Eligibility Test which is scheduled to take place in December.


NET Eligibility

1. The exam is currently open for Indians only.

2. You should have Master's degree to apply.

3. The marks in post graduation should not be less than 55%.

4. There is 5% relaxation for SC and ST.

5. No relaxation is given to Other Backward Class candidates.

6. Final year students can also apply for NET.

7. However they need to submit the degree in 2 years.

8. The subject for exam will depend on your PG course.

9. 28 years is the limit to apply for JRF.

10. But OBC can apply upto 31 years.

11. While SC/ST can apply till 33 years.

12. No age limit for college lectureship.

Yes you can apply for UGC NET if you have done Masters from a distance University.

But the Distance University should be recognized by UGC. If it is recognized then you will not have any kind of problem in applying for NET.

Also there is percentage criteria for UGC NET. You must have got 55% marks in Post Graduation then only you will be eligible for NET.

There is relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PWD category candidates.

Age Limit:

Don't worry about age if you want to apply for LS (Lecturership).

If you are interested in JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) then make sure that your age is below 28 years. Age relaxation is available for reserved category candidates.
