CDS Means Combined Defence Service Examination and this examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission twice in a year and CDS II notification was already announced and Last date for receipt of application on 02/07/12 . The examination will be held on 16/09/12 .

It is all India level entrance examination and conducted for admission to :-

~~ Military Academy
~~ Naval Academy
~~ Air force Academy
~~ Officer Training Academy

To join these defence services then you should have holding the degree of a recognized University or equivalent qualification and final year of degree course may also eligible to apply .

Those who have passed their bachelor's degree with any desire stream of a recognized University or equivalent qualification to apply for Military / Officer Training Academy .

Candidates who have passed graduate degree with Physics and Mathematics as subjects to apply for Air force / Naval Academy Examination .

Age limits :-

• Military :- 19 yrs - 24 yrs .
• Naval :- 19 yrs - 22 yrs .
• Air force :- 19 yrs - 23 yrs .
• Officer Training :- 19 yrs - 25 yrs .

Stage of CDS Examination :- Written exam , SSB Interview , Physical Test & Medical Test .

The Combined Defense Services (CDS) exam is conducted by UPSC twice in an year ( In February and September) for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy.

The notifications will be released in the month of October and June.

Eligibility Criteria


Education qualification

- For recruitment in Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy the candidate must have completed graduation from a recognized university.

-For recruitment in Air Force Academy the candidate must have completed degree from a recognized university and must have Physics and mathematics subject at the 10+2 level or must have completed Bachelor of Engineering

-For recruitment in Naval Academy the candidate must have completed Degree in Engineering for CDSE and Degree in Engineering or B.Sc. ( with Physics or Mathematics ) for NCC entry

Age limit

- For Indian Military Academy the candidate must have completed 19 years of age and should not be more than 24 years of age.


- For Air Force Academy the candidate must have completed 19 years of age and should not be more than 23 years of age.

- For Naval Academy the candidate must have completed 19 years of age and should not be more than 22 years of age.

-For Officers’ Training Academy the candidate must have completed 19 years of age and should not be more than 25 years of age.

Sex and Marital status

- For Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy only unmarried males are eligible.

-For Officers Training Academy ( SSC Course for Men ) unmarried and married males are eligible

-For Officers’ Training Academy ( SSC Women Non-Technical Course ) Unmarried women, widows and divorcees who have not remarried are eligible.

Exam Pattern

Exam Pattern for Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy

-It will consist of 3 papers- English , General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics

-English paper will be of 100 marks, General Knowledge of 200 marks and elementary mathematics of 300 marks

-All the papers will consist of Objective type questions only.

Exam Pattern for Officers' Training Academy

-It will consist of 2 papers- English and General Knowledge

-English paper will be of 100 marks and General Knowledge of 100 marks.

-All the papers will consist of Objective type questions only.
