Re: Difference between MOSFET and JFET? Where are they used?
Hi friend,
Difference between MOSFET & JFET 1. JFET has high Transconductance as compare to MOSFET. And Transconductance is the ratio of the current change at the output port to the voltage change at the input port. 2. Symbolic Difference: JFET.............................................. ........ MOSFET 3. Although the JFET is used in low noise and high input impedance Op-amp but MOSFET transistor has become one of the most important devices used in the design and construction of integrated circuits for digital computers. Its thermal stability and other general characteristics make it extremely popular in computer circuit design. There are some similarities in JFET and MOSFET like unipolarity , less base current and high input impedance, source-drain concept etc.. |

Re: Difference between MOSFET and JFET? Where are they used?
there are lots of difference between MOSFET and JFET. MOSFET is Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor. JFET is Junction Field Effect Transistor. both are type of Field Effect Transistor(FET).
in JFET there are Junction in the transistor but in MOSFET there are no junction. the transconductance for JFET is very high than the MOSFET. MOSFET has reverse body diode but JFET hs no reverse body diode. JFET is good for low noise applications, for low capacitance and high resistance input. MOSFET is good for High noise application, switching application etc. these are the main difference. there are also structural difference. i think it's better to read this from a electronics book. it is given in most if the basic electronics book. so you may try from there. click here for some more difference. |

hi Friends there are following difference in betwe and JFET-
>MOSFET stands for Multi oxide semiconductor field effect transistor, whereas >JFET stands for Junction field effect transistor. >The gate of a Junction Field Effect Transistor consists of a reverse-biased junction, whereas the gate of a Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor consists of a metal electrode insulted by metal oxide from a semiconductor channel. >JFET has high Trans-conductance as compare to MOSFET. >MOSFET has reverse body diode but JFET has no reverse body diode. >JFET is better for low noise applications, low capacitance and high resistance input. >In case of MOSFET,it is good for High noise application, switching application etc. |

Re: Difference between MOSFET and JFET? Where are they used?
Quote:
Here are some of the difference between MOSFET and JFET. JFET:- As you can see here, JFET is junction gate field-effect transistor. >>can be used as an electronically-controlled switch or as a voltage-controlled resistance. >> here it consists of semiconductor material, doped to contain an abundance of positive charge carriers or holes (p-type), or of negative carriers or electrons (n-type). >> When voltage is applied to GATE, current flows from source to drain. USES:- >>It is used as a buffer in measuring instruments. >>It is used in oscillator circuits. >>It is also used in low frequency amplifiers in hearing aids and inductiver transducers. >>used in digital circuits in computers, LCD and memory circuits. MOSFET:- Here is the diagram for metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor. >> well, this consists of four-terminal device with source (S), gate (G), drain (D), and body (B) terminals and used for amplifying or switching electronic signals. >>Here you can see gate is separated from the body by an insulating layer (shown in white). >>It is the most common transistor used till now, and you can see the difference here with JFET. >>gate input is a voltage rather than a current in case of MOSFET. USES:- It is used in high power applications. |

Re: Difference between MOSFET and JFET? Where are they used?
Dear friend
MOSFET stands for the Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor. It is used for amplifying or switching electronics signals. It is a four terminal device with source, gate ,drain and body terminals. JFET stands for the Junction field Effect transistor. It is can be used as a electronically controlled or voltage controlled switch. Construction: Ohmic contacts are provided at each end of source and drain .PN junction is formed on one or both sides of channel Note : The basic difference between MOSFET and JFET is that JFET has high transconductance than MOSFET due to which it is used in low noise high input impedances operational amplifier. At room temperature ,the JFET gate current is comparable to MOSFET but less than a biploar Junction transistor. Circuit symbol: Hope the information provided by me helps you in understanding the difference between MOSFET and JFET .If you have still any other confusion then leave your message here. all the best aashisranjan |
