The acronym CID stands for Criminal Investigation Department.

Recruitment to officer level post is done through Indian Police Services. IPS officers are selected for CID. Indian Police Services are selected through Civil Services exam. The eligibility criteria is:

Bachelor's degree is the minimum academic qualification.

Minimum age to apply is 21 years.

You can not become CID officer with 12th as academic qualification.

You can not become Criminal Investigation Department officer after passing senior secondary board examination. You need to apply for bachelor's degree and complete the course.

Graduates who are at least 21 years of age can apply for Civil Services exam and pass it to join Indian Police Services then Criminal Investigation Department.
