Dear Friend,
Usually Engineering Graduates take up Finance , since for taking finance, one has to be good in Quantitatives. But obviously one has to select one's area of choice, like Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Operations Chain Management,International Business, Retail Management etc.

Hi

You have not mentioned which DEGREE specialization are you talking about. However it seems that MBA Finance is the course which you want to ask about.

As you may know MBA - Master's in Business Administration is the top course for post graduation in the market as of now. So most of the graduates are running after this.
CAT - Common Admission Test is the top Entrance Exam in the run to get into the IIM's.

So further coming to your query, in MBA there are specializations like Finance, HR, Sales and Marketing, Hotel Management, Retail, etc..
Out of these Finance and HR are the top most specializations in the market. This is because every company wants good people and workers. The HR Manager does this job of hiring and managing the employs of the company.

And the Financial Balance sheets are also complex calculations which cannot be dealt with by anybody. So specialized MBA's in Finance are required.
Thus the latter is more valuable always and also paid more.

So I would say yeah even an Engineer can easily go for the MBA Finance specialization provided that you have to score very high and best in the CAT and other MBA Entrances.

Hope this helps

All the best

Regards
