Hiiiiiiiii Gayatri Nair..
Genetic Engineering is booming and exciting field and even scope wise it is good.Since there are few colleges in India which provide this subject so i suggest you to do Bio-technology in engineering as it is related to this and after completion you start applying to forensic or other research department wherever it is applicable..... Most institutes do not offer courses in Genetic Engineering as a special discipline but as a subsidiary in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry streams. Genetics is offered at the undergraduate level, at Kakatiya University, Warangal Osmania University, Hyderabad, Some of the universities which offer genetic Engineering courses at postgraduate and doctorate levels are Bio-Informatics Centre of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur and Delhi), Delhi University, University of Calcutta, MKU-Coimbatore, Birla Institute of Technology (Pilani Rajasthan), University of Lucknow, Jadavpur University (Kolkata, West Bengal) etc. Regards ~ ~ |

Re: How to become a Genetic Engineer?
HELLO,
For admission in well known college you should secure over 70% in your high school exam,Be Graduate in biotech with ateast 65%(aggregate),however it's better if you opt B.Tech. in Genetic engineering, after that you can persue M.Tech. in the same, complete your PG with 'internship' so that you can get more opportunities.you can take GRE(graduation record examination) for PhD which will lead you to abroad, after PhD in research you can apply for R&D department in any Biotech company. here are some renowned institutes for M.Tech. in india- *Dr.MGR Educational & Research institute ,Maduravoyal,Chennai *Mahatma Gandhi university Thiruvalla,Pathanamthitta *Bharathiar university,Coimbatore (T.N.) *Madurai Kamraj university, madurai (T.N.) *University of calcutta,Kolkata(West Bengal) *Jamia millia islamia (a central university),New Delhi *Institute of bioinformatics & biotechnology,Pune *Amity institute of biotechnology,New Delhi. Here you can get direct admission via your bachelor degree marks(aggregate) or through entrance test. OK, BEST OF LUCK. |

Re: How to become a Genetic Engineer?
to study genetic engineering you must have science subject in you 12th. mathematics and biology should be needed. there is a graduation general course on genetics. you may go for it after 12. for this you have to take admission in this course in the institution those provide this subject for study. but there are few number of colleges in India those provide genetic as a subject of study.
if you want to do B.Tech in genetic engineering then you must have PCM in 12. you have to appear in engineering entrance examination after 12 to take admission in genetic engineering. in India only some engineering colleges have this course. so it is better to take admission in genetic engineering after appearing in the AIEEE entrance examination as AIEEE is all india base engineering entrance examination. after securing good position in the entrance examination through counseling you will be able to take admission in genetic engineering. best wishes. |

Re: How to become a Genetic Engineer?
the following things are very important to become a genetic engineer
those are follow as 1) A good all round education. 2) An ability to get on with others in a team. 3) A sound moral sense -- above all, a scientist has to be concerned with the truth, has to be honest. 4) An ability to love your subject of study/research and show individual initiative. 5) A lively and creative imagination; a flair for problem-solving. 6) A sharp intellect and an ability to think reductionistically, i.e. to consider living things in terms of molecules or objects to be tinkered with to suit human desires. 7) And ability to regard one's chosen living organism as a tool with which to build one's career, provided one respects the basic minimal ethical standards of treatment of the organism (e.g. an animal) imposed by society. 8) Late high school and exam passes to university entrance grades covering biology, chemistry and mathematics subjects, as well as genetics as part of the biology. 9) An undergraduate education in molecular biology or molecular genetics and a good enough Bachelor of Science degree to qualify for studying for a research degree (Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.). 10) A PhD degree based on several (e.g. 3) years of your own original research under the guidance of a supervisor. 11) Some post-doctoral research experience in which you choose a domain of molecular biology to make your own. 12) Practical experience in recombinant DNA techniques can be gained during academic research or through research and development (R&D) in industry. 13) Laboratory technicians including those charged with the care of the living organisms to be genetically modified in many countries often require special training at technical colleges. Some technicians work their way up by coming in with no qualifications and learning on the job. all the best |
