IAS stands for Indian Administrative Services.

*When a candidate clears Civil Services examination and achieves a rank to get Indian Administrative Service. After that he has to undergo training at Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Academy of Administration.

*When training is over, IAS candidates are posted as SDM in selected cadre's district. After 3-4 years of experience of service as SDM, he gets post of District magistrate or DM in that district. This is how an IAS officer become District magistrate.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
