Internship is based on your area of interest and your knowledge.
first you will apply for the internship, then they can concern your application and then select you to do a internship in their company.

Next, you are asking about project. project is based on your subject knowledge

i'm a 3rd year BTech it student till now I have an aggregate of 87% , bt in 5 th sem I got 2 arrears can I apply for summer project in IIT this time.
