Re: How to investigate resistance of a wire with changing its temperature?
Dear
The resistance of a metal(wire) increases as its temperature increases (the technical term for this is that: metals have a positive temperature co-efficient of resistance). This can b understood by this simple example do you know why light bulbs tend to "blow" when you switch them on. Since As the tungsten filament ages eventually the heat generated by the current will "blow" the element. The resistance of the tungsten element increases after you switch it on. This is due to the increase in temperature when current flows through the filament. This means the resistance of the bulb is lower and therefore the current is higher when you first switch it on . It is this initial surge of current that cause the bulb to blow. I think you understood with This simple example . |
