Your decision to start early with CAT exam preparation is a really good. For this first of all you have to collect detailed syllabus for the exam. The test includes questions on reasoning, QA, general awareness and verbal ability. Reading newspapers will definitely bring up your GK and general awareness. Preparation on other topics can be done by referring books or by undergoing training under any coaching centers.

HI

B.Tech 2nd year is the best time to prepare for CAT.
As you dont have tension of the placement.

You can join any good coaching institute such as TIME, IMS etc
These institute clear all concept within one year.
In remaining one year, you can solve as many question as possible.
Try to solve as many mock papers as possible,
The more you solve, the better it would be from exam point of your.

All the best
