Dear friend
IES is one of the best job in technical sector. Its like technical civil services and there is no lack of candidates aspiring for it, so in no way it can be called easy.
However, if you are focused for your goal then easy/tough things remains back and the only one thing that leads is confidence, hard work and sincerity.
If you are thinking about it then stop thinking and start your preparation.

The IES exam is divided into four groups.
1. CIVIL, 2.MECHANICAL, 3.ELECTRICAL, 4.ELECTRONICS.
one GENERAL ABILITY TEST

No. of vacancies to be filled through IES exam

In the year 2010, there are 434 vacancies including 10 physically handicapped vacancies. The 434 vacancies are together combined vacancies of all the 4 categories of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & telecommunication Engineering. So, roughly there are about 100 vacancies in each category. But this may vary as the number of vacancies required for each category may be different.

Eligibility for IES exam

1. Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2). Candidates in final year or pre final year can also give IES exam.
2. Candidates with MSc. degree or equivalent in Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering will be eligible for certain posts only
3. Candidates with qualifications obtained through exams conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to BE/B.Tech are also eligible to sit for the IES exam. For example, AMICE conducted by Institute of Civil Engineers, India is one such examination.
4. A candidate should be more than 21 years and less than 30 years of age as on 1st August, 2010. There are relaxations in age limit for various reserved categories
5. A candidate should be medically and physically fit according to the specified requirements.

Coaching classes for IES exam

There are various coaching institutes available for IES examination. Most of the examinations target IES exam and GATE exam together as the syllabus for IES and GATE examination is similar to an extent. Some of them are:
1. IES Academy – www.iesacademy.com
2. Vani Institute – Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai.
3. ACE Engineering Academy – Hyderabad
4. The Engineering Academy – Bangalore
5. IES made Easy – Bangalore and Delhi

If you are joining any of the coaching, blindly follow all the instructions given by yourIES coaching institute. Do not listen to your friends in other institutes and adopt different methods. This happens many times. So, the best approach is to follow the instructions from the IES coaching institute. If you give your best efforts, success is waiting for you.
IES is an exam of patience. You have to believe in yourself to give this exam. You have to trust yourself and have immense confidence in your preparations. You will emerge victorious.

Best of luck

UPSE conducts the Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam to select bright candidates from different field of engineering streams. The selection method of IES is very critical. While preparation focus is very essential and the candidate need to have through knowledge about the subject. They should be well versed with current affairs. There are lots of resources readily available in the market. Students can visit a book store and purchase a good book for preparing in the exam.

1.GENERAL STUDIES (for IES & PSUs)
2.GENERAL ENGLISH (IES & PSUs)
3.G.S & English(IES Solved Papers)
etc
so get started and best of luck................

IES i.e Indian Engineering Service is one of the Best Exam For Engineering ..

Mostly Candidates who are applying for this are not taking any coaching because To crack IES exam,

College books i.e Engineering Books which you have Studied/referred till are sufficient Enough.

If you study again these books you will grasp them quickly , and no need to put more Extra effort on going For coaching and other things.

If coaching is affordable and its nearer to your place then you can join , But Self study is one of the key to success.

Before preparing for IES you must be knowing about your Eligibility Criteria because whats the Use if you are preparing for it and you are Not Eligible.

For eligibility you need be in a specified branch (Civil, Electrical, Entc Or Mechanical.) and your age must be within 21 to 30 years of age.

Since the exam consists of two parts. The first paper mainly consists of General English and General Studies. The second part consists of subjects of your respective branch.

Its better that you start your preparation right from the first year. The IES exam for ECE branch mainly consist of subjects like

Network Analysis,Electronic Devices and Circuits,Power Electronics,Pulse Devices and Circuits,Linear Integrated Circuits,Digital Integrated Circuits,Signals and Systems,Electromagnetic Theory,Electronic Measurements and Instrumentation,Control Systems,Communication System,Microwave Engineering,Computer Engineering
.

You need to focus on the above mentioned subjects.Refer standard books of William H. Hayt,
Modern Control Engineering:Katsuhiko Ogata,
Digital Design Principles and Practices:John F. Wakerly,Signals and Systems:Oppenheim Willsky,
Digital Communications:John Proakis

If you get qualified in the IES exam then its easy to get a job in many of the departments in Railways,Defence and other such Government sectors.

Yes of course you can study yourself for the IES examination.the IES exam mainly consists of two parts i.e GENERAL ABILITY TEST consisting of General English and General Studies. So,for this part you don't need separate coaching center.

The second part mainly consists of your core branch. So,it includes all the core subjects right from the first year. So,if you follow standard books then of course you can go through this exam easily. Its better that you start focusing on your core branches from now itself to crack for the IES examination.
