Educational Qualification:-

You must have graduation degree from recognized university.There is not requited any kind percentage marks .

Age criteria:-


For General category candidate,age should be between 21 to 27 years
For OBC category candidates age should be between 21 to 30 years
For SC/ST category candidates age should be between 21 to 35 years.

No of attempts:-

4 attempts for General category candidates
7 attempts for OBC category candidates
Unlimited attempts for sc/st category candidates

Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission

Eligibility Criteria for Civil Exam :

The Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill eligibility conditions for admission to examination. Their admission to all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. Mere issue of admission certificate to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by the commission. commission take up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for interview/Personality test.

Academic Eligibility for Civil Exams :

** The candidate must hold a degree of any of universities incorporated by an Act of the Central of State Legislature in india of other educational institutions established by and Act Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under section -3 of the University grant commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

** candidates who have appeared or intend to appear for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear for the Preliminary Examination. All such candidates who qulaify to appear for the Civil Services Main Examination must produce proof of having passed the said examination along with their application for the Main Examination

Age Eligibility

** Candidates age should between 21 to 30 years and age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC Candidates as under



Nationality :

** Candidates should be a citizen of India

  1.   4. Candidates with professional and technical qualifications recognised by the Government as equivalent to professional and technical degrees.
  5. Candidates who have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical Examination but are yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Examination. However they must submit along with their Main Examination application, a certificate from the concerned authority of the University / Institution that they have passed the final professional medical examination. At the Interview stage they must then produce a certificate from a competent authority that they have completed (including internship) all the requirements for the award of the Medical Degree.

  1. Other Eligibility Conditions for IAS Exams :
  2. (i) Nationality :
  3. For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
  4. For other services, a candidate must be either :—
  5. a citizen of India, or
  6. a subject of Nepal, or
  7. a subject of Bhutan, or
  8. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  9. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  10. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
  11. Provided further that candidates belonging to categories (b), (c) and (d) above will not be eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service.
  12. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
  13. (ii) Age Limits :
  14. A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2012, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1982 and not later than 1st August, 1991.
  15. The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable :
  16. upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
  17. upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.
  18. upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.
  19. upto a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof.
  20. upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st August, 2012 and have been released .
  21. on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st August, 2012) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or
  22. on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or
  23. on invalidment.
  24. Upto a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years Military Service as on 1st August, 2012 and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three months notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.
  25. upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf - muteand orthopaedically handicapped PAPERS

Optional subject for civil service examination:-




The eligibility criteria for the civil service examination are prescribed as below:-


* Completion of graduation in any discipline from any recognised colege or university.

* Age limit- 21-30 yrs for General, 21-33 yrs for OBC, and 21-35 yrs for SC/ST contendors.

* Nationality- Indian.

* No. of attempts- 4 for General, 7 for OBC and no limits for SC/ST contendors.
