CDSE stands for the Combined Defense Services examination. This entrance exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission twice every year for recruitment of candidates to different academies of defense like:

>>Indian Military Academy.

>>Indian Naval Academy.

>>Officer's Training Academy.

>>Airforce Academy.

Examination pattern of CDS exam:

For IMA, INA, AFA:

Written test consists of three papers of English, General Knowledge and Elementary mathematics of 2 hours. For Officer's training academy, only two papers of English and General knowledge of 2 hours is conducted.

So, yes, it is necessary to write both exams conducted by CDSE. Candidates who clear written test, have to appear for the Service Selection board.

Any candidate who has done bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university can apply for this exam. Final year candidates can also apply for the exam.

The age limit for IMA is 19-24 years, for INA it is 19-22 years, for Airforce it is 19-23 years and for OTA it is 19-25 years. Both unmarried male and female candidates can apply for the exam.

For any more details about CDS exam or previous year papers, official website is www.upsc.gov.in.
