IAS stands for the Indian Administrative Service. The role of IAS is to implement government policy and during provide valuable feedback to the government to draft a policy.

Senior IAS officers help in drafing the policy. To become IAS officer one has to clear the Civil Services Examination. It is a yearly exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission in 2 stages.

There are two stages of written exams after which selected candidates are called for the interview. You can clear the exam and get into the Indian Administrative Service.

Coming to your question regarding physical requirements I should point out that there are none. The physical requirements are for the Indian Police Service which is understandable due to the nature of work.

Such is not the situation for the IAS officers. Therefore there is no physical criteria and even physically disabled are eligible for IAS. There is certain number of seats reserved for the physically disabled in the Indian Administrative Service.

Therefore stop worrying about physical requirements and start preparing for the exam if you are meeting other criteria.

Eligibility

1. Foreign nationals are strictly forbidden from appearing for IAS.

2. Graduation degree holder can appear.

3. There is no minimum percentage criteria.

4. Age should be at least 21 years and no more than 30 years.

5. Three years relaxation in upper age for OBC.

6. Five years relaxation for SC and ST.

Selection Process

1. Preliminary Exam

2. Main Exam

3. Interview
