Re: Scope in Marine Engineering for non science student? Fee structure and admission criteria?
There is no scope for non science students to join marine engineering. As you know engineering is practical application of mathematics, physics or chemistry to design structures and system so without without science subjects engineering is meaningless. Generally to join 4 years B.Tech in marine engineering one must complete 10+2 with pcm and then clear entrance exams like AIEEE or other state level entrances. However if you are interested in joining merchant navy there is few options open to you. Generally, one can join merchant navy either as an officer or as rating. Marine engineers can join as officer. Also there is pre sea courses offered by different institutes for diploma holders which make them qualified to become an officer. You can join diploma in engineering with class X qualification. Afterthat join 2 years pre sea course. There is numerous govt. As well as private colleges offering this courses. Here are the government institutes which offer pre sea courses

Re: Scope in Marine Engineering for non science student? Fee structure and admission criteria?
Training of all the Indian Merchant Navy personnel is the responsibility of the Indian Government, who work through the Ministry of Surface Transport. Candidates who wish to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Technology degree in mechanical engineering or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. In some cases, students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets.
Navigating Officers - Candidates will need to obtain a Certificate of Competency, as per the regulations in India relating to the examinations of Masters and Mates. Conducted by the Ministry of Surface Transport, in association with the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) Mumbai, the examinations help determine the promotion prospects for the officers. Training for Navigating Officers. So I am sorry to say that to join merchant navy one needs to be a science student. |

friend upto my best knowledge to study merchant navy u have to have physics and maths as compulsory subjects in +2 without which u cannot applt for merchant navy so friend if u really want to join navy or its allied branches then complete graduation and then apply via cds exam in which physics-maths criteria is not required.
