NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY(NDA) entrance exam is conducted by UPSC twice every year for entry in to Indian Army, Navy and Air Force wing of NDA.

Though there is no specific subject of studies to join NDA but the candidate having Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th standard can apply for all the three wings of NDA when the candidate without the above subjects is only eligible to apply for Indian Army of NDA.

To be eligible for NDA one must be an Indian unmarried male candidate only having either appear for the final 12th exam or pass in any stream from a recogised Board within the age of 16.5 to 19 years with good Physical and Mental fitness.

Default Re: Which subject should I have to join NDA?

It depends upon your choice of Defence Wing you want to join through NDA examination.

For Joining Indian Air Force and Indian Navy you must pass 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.

For Indian Army you can complete 10+2 with any stream. But you have to face maths and science in NDA Objective type paper.

So it will be up to you to select your stream if you want to join the defence.

Those who opt for PCM subjects in 10+2 will have greater chance of getting selected because they will be eligible for all the three Branches of Defence.

The age limit for NDA examination is 16.5 to 19 years and only unmarried male can apply for it.

The selection will be based on the following stages:

-Objective Type Paper

-SSB Interview

-Medical Examination

So be prepared for NDA examination if you really want to join NDA as Cadet.

Hi

There are no fixed subjects that you have to take up if you wish to sit for the NDA Examination. As you must be knowing that NDA is an entrance for entry level jobs in the Defense like Army, Navy and Air Force. So according to these, you have to decide which subjects you are to take. I would provide you a few necessary details about it which would help you in selecting subjects.

NDA stands for the National Defense Academy. This entrance is conducted for the selection of candidates for the 3 wings of the Army, Navy and Air Force. The subjects are to be selected as per these 3.

->> If you wish to join ARMY, then you can belong to any stream and can apply for the NDA. You would be allowed to take up the exam and then ONLY be shortlisted for the ARMY recruitment.

->> If you wish to join AIR FORCE/NAVY then you HAVE TO take up subjects of PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) compulsorily. If you do not study these subjects, THEN YOU CANNOT APPLY FOR Navy/Air Force jobs under NDA.

These are the two criteria's based on which you have to select your subjects in the Higher Secondary Class 12th boards. Other Eligibility Criteria's for it are as follows :-

-> Unmarried Male Candidates ONLY
-> Age within 16.5 to 19 years. Some relaxations are provided for the reserved classes
-> 12th pass is minimum Educational qualification which is required
-> Physical and Mental fitness is a must

So you have to check for these as well once you are done selecting your subjects. Hereby I am uploading a NDA Dec 2012 Notification from which you would get all the details. Please download and refer to it. Note that the application dates are over so you can no more apply for the same. However you can apply for the NDA 2 which would be held in August.

More Information –
Recruitment of candidates to Army, Navy and Air force wings of the National Defence Academy (NDA), is through National Defence Academy Entrance Exam which is held twice a year, generally in the month of April and September. NDA exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The course of training is for three years.

The candidate is required to give his preference for the service he wishes to join, however the final decision also depends on the rank he secures in the merit list.
The candidate should first decide their preference for the two academies i.e. National Defence Academy and Naval Academy (Executive Branch) .
If a candidate opts for NDA as his first choice, he has to then give his preferences for the three wings of the NDA i.e. Army, Navy, Air force, followed by his preference for Naval Academy.
Alternatively, if he gives his first preference for Naval Academy, he has to follow it with his preference for the three wings of the NDA.
Candidates who desire to join Air Force Academy must indicate AFA as first choice, as they have to be administered pilot aptitude battery test at one of the AFSB and AF Medical at Central Medical Establishment/ Institute of Aviation Medicines.
