The Pune University offers Phd in various subjects. In order to be eligible for the research program from the University of Pune, candidate who hold a Masters degree must have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. Admission is based on entrance tests. Candidate holding M.phil degree or a valid score in any of the National Entrance exams such as GATE, GPAT etc are exempted from the entrance tests.

The entrance test comprises of two papers of 100 marks each. Paper I consists of General Aptitude Test and paper II consists of the Subject of concern.

The General Aptitude Test comprises of Logical Reasoning, Numerical Ability, Reasoning and Language Aptitude. Candidate have to score a minimum of 50% marks to be declared as passed.

Paper II examination will be conducted by respective University Departments/Research Centres only.
