Dear aspirant,
SET stands for state eligibility test.SET is conducted by one university in your state. It was conducted by every year. The students you have completed their post graduation can write this exam.Once your state government gives notification of SET exam, according to the notification you can apply for the exam.

Hi friend.........

NET means National Eligibility Test while SET stands for State Eligibility Test. There is very little difference between the two exams.

National Eligibility Test is conducted by University Grants Commission for the central government colleges while State Eligibility Test is responsibility of each state to conduct for its colleges.

The requirement for both exams remains the same. After clearing NET you can apply for lectureship in central government colleges while after clearing SET, you can apply for job in the very state where you appeared for exam.

For example if you appeared for Gujarat SET then you can apply for lectureship in Gujarat's colleges. Apart from the college lectureship both these exams are also conducted for the Junior Research Fellowship.

Eligibility

1. Any citizen of India can apply for these exams.

2. You must be post graduation degree holder.

3. Need to secure 55 percent marks in master's degree.

4. Relaxation of 5 percent marks for SC/ST.

5. You are free to apply even during final year of post graduation.

6. Final year candidates will have to submit degree in 2 years.

7. Subject will depend on your master's degree.

8. Age limit for JRF is 28 years (General).

9. 31 year is the limit for OBC.

10. The age limit for SC/ST interested in appearing for JRF is 33 years.

11. There is lower age limit of 19 years for lectureship.

12. There is no upper age limit.

SET stands for State Eligibility Test. It is state level version of the National Eligibility Test which is conducted for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship.

First thing to keep in mind is that State Eligibility Test is no single exam. But each state has its own. For example, Gujarat has its own State Eligibility Test, so does Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Therefore you will have to wait for the notification from the particular state in which you want to give to exam. It is also important to remember that SET exam is only valid in that particular state. Which means that Gujarat SET is only valid in Gujarat. You can not apply in Maharashtra through it.

Read the notification from the state government regarding the SET carefully before applying. The eligibility criteria for SET is same as NET entrance exam.

SET Eligibility

1. You should be Indian national to apply.

2. You will have to complete post graduation degree course to apply.

3. Even in final year of the course you can apply.

4. But must pass the post graduation with at least 55 percent marks.

5. SC/ST should pass with 50 percent marks.

6. There is no relaxation for OBC.

7. Subject for the exam will depend on your post graduation course.

8. You should be below 28 years to apply for JRF.

9. OBC however can apply for Junior Research Fellowship up to 31 years.

10. Similarly SC/ST can apply up to 33 years.

11. The lower age limit for lectureship is 19 years.

12. There is no upper age limit.
