Actually IAS is a service which is abbreviated as Indian Civil Service. not an examination .
the exam conducted to become IAS or IPS is Civil service examination this examination is conducted every year.

it is conducted by UPSC. which is a constitutional body appointed by Govt of India's supremacy.

the next IAS exam will be in the month of June next year i.e., 2012
the notification for the same will be released in february of next year.

there will be immediate intimation by the great newspapers like The Hindu Employment News ,Deccan Chronicle.etc., they will intimate after the release of the notification.

The official weblink of this examinations and all the other details like Examination code,Eligibility criteria etc., will be there in that .
Availability of forms and the step by step procedure of how to apply also available in that link only.

Hello Heena,

The next civil service exam is going to be conducted on 20-05-12.
To apply for the exam, you may obtain the application form from designated post office and head post office. The application forms will be available 04-02-12 onwards.
You may also apply online through www.upsconline.nic.in
Online application forms will also be available 04-02-12 onwards.

The basic steps you should follow to crack the civil service exam are as follows:

Prepare as per the syllabus of each subject.
Refer to the previous year question papers.
Refer to the IGNOU study materials for any subject.

IGNOU study material is prescribed by experts because of its updated syllabus and easy to understand language.

For further information, refer to the official website of UPSC.

i have completed my graduation from commerce stream and i want to appear in ias prelims so please tell me the details of paper -2 that what subject is suitable for b. com background .also suggest me some books and their authors ,magazines and newspapers required for ias (prelims).
