Most of the entrance examination comprise of more than one stage and usually, the first stage of such examinations are known as Preliminary Exam. These examinations are conducted by private organizations, union public service commission, state level public service commission, staff selection commission, public sector banks etc.

Now, since you have not mentioned particularly about any examination, it is bit difficult to be accurate with the answer. However, mostly, these examinations are conducted in different regions and in various parts of India. The Choice of examination center is sometime left with the candidate applying for the examination and sometimes, it is prefixed and candidate belonging to a particular area needs to write the examination at the allocated examination center.
