Recruitment by PSU's like BHEL, HPCL and Power Grid through GATE?

Sir,
I am in final year from IT branch. IT and CSE are almost similar branches. sir when i checked the NTPC website it was mentioned that only mechanical, civil, electronics and electrical students can apply. Infact this is the scenario in almost all the psu's like BHEL, HPCL, Power grid etc... But in one of the forums it was written that cse students can also apply in these psu's...
Kindly clarify this confusion of mine and plz let me know whether i m eligible to apply in these psu's being a IT student ?????
Kindly reply me through mail :- swati_2194@yahoo.com
