I am a B.Com graduate. I want to join in Indian Air Force. I would like to know about the eligibility criteria?

To join in Indian Air Force after completion of your Graduation, you need to appear in CDS examination which is conducted by UPSC examination twice a year. Eligibility criteria required to appear in CDS examination is mentioned below :-

1. You must be a citizen of India.

2. You must have completed Graduation degree from a recognised university with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level.

3. You must be in between 19-24 years.

4. You must be an Unmarried Male candidate.

5. You must be Physically fit as per physical standards mentioned in the UPSC CDS examination notification.

The candidate who wishes to join Indian Air Force after Graduation has to appear for the CDS exam conducted by UPSC .

UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts CDS (Combined Defense Services) exam twice a year to make selection of personnel for Indian Army .

The eligibility criteria for CDS exam in order to join Indian Air Force are as under :-

Nationality : Indian .

Edu. Qualification : 10+2 level degree with Physics and Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering.

Age limit : 19 years to 23 years .

Selection procedure :

Written Exam

Interview by Services Selection Board.

No, B.Com graduate candidates are not eligible for Indian Air Force. The eligibility criteria is given below.

Indian Military Academy:- You need to be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university. Your age should be between 19 to 24 years.

Air Force Academy:- You need to have a bachelor's degree in science with physics or mathematics or B.E./B.Tech in engineering or technology. Your age should be between 19 to 23 years.

Naval Academy:- You need to complete your graduation in engineering or technology or you can do B.Sc degree with physics or mathematics. Your age should be between 19 to 23 years.

Officer's Training Academy:- You need to have a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution. Your age should be between 19 to 25 years.

Sorry to inform you that being a commerce stream graduate you are not eligible for joining Indian Air force as for the same only Science stream students are eligible.

But if you are interested in the defense field then you have the option of Indian Military Academy ( IMA ) or Officer's Training Academy ( OTA ) which are also the wings of CDS.

Now to join the same wings of defense you will have to clear the CDS examination for which the necessary qualifications required are as here under :-

--> You must have the nationality of India.

--> You must hold the bachelor's degree with any discipline from a recognized university.

--> Your age must be within 19 years to 24 years for IMA and for OTA it must lie within 19 years to 25 years.

--> You must be physically and mentally tough as per the requirement norms.

CDS stands for Combined Defense Services and the same examination is held by UPSC twice every year popularly called as CDS I & CDS II. Also the examination is conducted in two stages which are called as Written examination and Service Selection Board interview.

It is quite tough to say whether you are eligible for the Indian Air Force or not only on the discipline of the graduation. As the candidate need to appear and qualify in the CDS examination conducted by the UPSC twice every year.

The eligibility to appear for the examination is :-
* Candidate must have passed the graduation form the recognized university.
* Candidate age must be between 19-23 years.
* Candidate must have pursue Mathematics and Physics as the main subject in the 10+2 board examination.

So if you fulfill the above eligibility you can appear in the examination. The upcoming CDS II application forms are available from the August and the examination will be conducted in the month of November.

The examination will be conducted in the two stages and the candidate who qualifies in the first stages ( written ) are only eligible for the next stage as for the SSB.

Yes, you can be indian air force officier after graduation. You can apply for flying branch , technical branch, ground duties.
Air force common admission test or AFCAT is by far the biggest exam conduted for entry into the IAF.
Flying branch 19-23yr
technical branch-18-28 yrs. Ground duties-20-23yrs.

After graduation, a candidate be it a male or a female candidate can join the Indian Air Force through fighting the examinations of CDSE and AFCAT.

The details of both the examinations are as follows :

CDSE is conducted by the UPSC twice a year in the month of February and October for the recruitment of officers in the defence forces.

The eligibility criteria for the same is as follows :

* The candidate should be a citizen of India.

* The candidate should be mentally and physically fit.

* The candidate should have done the graduation under the scheme of 10+2+3 at least from a recognized university.

* The minimum age for appearing is 21 years at least.

You can appear in the examination right from the final year of your graduation degree.


AFCAT stands for the Air Force Common Admission Test.

It is the test conducted by the India Air Force twice the year for the recruitment of Engineers as the officers in the IAF.

According to the notification released by the IAF, the eligibility criteria is as follows :

* The candidate should be a citizen of India.

* The candidate should be mentally and physically fit.

* The candidate should have done the Engineering (BE/BTech) from any stream.

* The minimum age for appearing is 21 years at least.

You can appear in the examination right from the final year of your Engineering degree.

Yes, you can join Indian Air Force after graduation through the Combined Defense Services. Combined Defense Services examination is conducted by the UPSC every year.

Eligibility criteria for Air Force Academy through CDS:

Candidate must have done bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Final year candidates can also apply for the exam. You must have studied mathematics and physics at the 10+2 level.

The age limit is 19-23 years.

You can also apply for the Air Force Common Admission Test but for this also, you must have studied physics and mathematics at 10+2 level.

You can apply for CDS and AFCAT if you want to join Indian Air Force as an officer. Selection will be purely based on the performance in the written exam and interview.

B.Com Graduates are eligible for Ground Duty Branch in Indian Air Force. You will not be eligible for Technical and Flying branch. Also, if you want to apply for CDS for Air Force then you must have studied maths as a subject in 10+2.

Yes, you are eligible to join the Air Force after the graduation if you have studied with the science stream in the 10+2. You need to appear and then qualify in the CDS examination.
