I wanted to know if National Institute of Design (NID) Graduates are eligible to give the Civil Service Exams? NID offers Diplomas at the moment but it has been recognised as an Institute of National Importance.

If your degree is equivalent to bachelor degree then are eligible for civil service exam.

Those candidate who have completed graduation degree from a recognized university with minimum percentage marks are eligible for civil service exam. Final year of degree candidates can apply for civil service exam.

Your age should be in between 21-30 years for general candidates. Age relaxation for OBC candidates is 3 years and for SC/ST candidates is 5 years.

The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

Sorry to say that you are not eligible for IAS entrance exam after completing Graduation through NID. Only those candidates who are completed three years graduation from recognized university can apply, so diploma holders are ineligible for Civil Service Entrance exam.

There are various exams that comes under Civil Service Examination. The exams like,

Indian Police Service,
Indian Administrative Service,
Indian Forest Service
Indian Engineering Service
Indian Economic Service etc.


The eligibility criteria of the these exams could be different from each other. Had you specifically mentioned a particular field, I could have answered the question better.

• The candidate should be Indian citizen.
• The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university and Final year students can also apply subject to furnishing the proof of graduation

Civil Services examinations are conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) every year.

The educational qualification required for applying is Graduation from any stream.

As you have completed your Graduation in NID, you are definitely eligible for applying in civil services.

There is no Percentage Requirement. Your age should be between 21-30 years.

At the most you can attempt for four times.

Selection procedure includes preliminary exams, main examination followed by interview.

To be eligible to appear for Indian Civil Services Examination, you must have completed Graduation degree or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised university. Since, you are a NID Graduate, you can definitely appear for Indian Civil Services Examination.

To be eligible to appear for Indian Civil Services Examination, you must satisfy the following eligibility criteria mentioned below :-

1. You must be a citizen of India.

2. You must be in between 21-30 years old. Age relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates is applicable as per government rules.
