No, there is no such selected branch of engineering thing. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) doesn't have any such rule. It invites applications from all the graduates for its exams except for few recruitment's where there is specific need of some group of bachelors candidates for example Humanities candidates cannot apply for NDA Naval or Airwing whereas they are eligible for Indian Army wing.

UPSC conducts many exams, each exam has its own eligibility criteria out of all the exams of UPSC the importance is very very high for Civil Services Exam where every Indian aspire to be the one among the selected candidates.

For it as I mentioned earlier there is no group bifurcation. Every graduate is eligible for it. From arts to engineering every graduate is eligible. Other than that IFoS has some separate requirements like candidates applying for Indian Forest Services must and should read any of the subjects like
-Animal Husbandry
-Forest sciences
-Equivalent
to be eligible for IFoS post.

All I want to say is don't panic because you selected one stream and you may not be eligible for exams. Nothing to worry, there are many general exams which accept all the graduates but a very few are exceptions ofcourse. But opportunities are wide. You can find your place in one or the other.

All the very best.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
