It depends on preparation section and your hard work. If you are good with mathematics and English sections, then you will get good score in CAT exam. Its depend on the environment of examination hall also.

Here, I have mentioned the names of some books which will help you in the preparation of CAT:

1. CAT Topic-wise 17 years Solved papers
by : Disha Experts
Publisher : Disha Publication(2012)

2. Verbal Ability for CAT
by: MBA Guru
Publisher : Cengage Learning(2011)

3. How to prepare by CAT
by: Muneer

4. Verbal Ability for CAT
by : Sujit Kumar
Publisher : Pearson(2011)

5. The Pearson Guide To Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examination
by : Dinesh Khattar
Publisher : Pearson(2008)

6. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning for CAT
by : Arun Sharma

The percentile depends upon your level of preparation. It doesn't matter if you are studying all on your own or have joined a coaching Institute. You can very much get good scores even after self-preparation. So, it is difficult to say as to how much could you get but definitely you will score well if you work hard.

These are some of the best books for the preparation of CAT exam:

> Analytical and Logical Reasoning for CAT
Author- B.S. Sijwali, Ajay Singh
ISBN- 8183482708

> Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehensionfor CAT
Author- Arun Sharma, Meenakshi Uphadyay
ISBN- 0071332138

> Quantitaive Aptitude for CAT
Author- Arun Sharma
ISBN- 0071332146

> Study Package for CAT Online(with CD)
Author- Meenakshi Upadyay, Arun Sharma
ISBN- 0071329412

> The Pearson Complete Guide for CAT
Authhor- Nishit K Sinha
ISBN- 8131722090

Now, as far as your percentile is considered, nothing can be said about it as it all depends upon how much effort do you actually put to it. You can however score well if you study better and harder even at home without any coaching Institution's help.
