Cochin University, since the time it came into existence, has been concerned about the promotion of students in the various fields of science and engineering. It introduced the subject of chemical methods in environmental analysis as a part of Environmental Technology in its MSc course to make students familiar with the chemical processes of treating environmental components contained in water and other naturally occurring elements. The course integrates the various methods with which gases, ions and organic or inorganic materials are analysed. The analysis is done in a systematic way and the subject deals with that generally. Geochemical analysis, XRF analysis and grain-size analysis are a few of the methods taught in this that are efficient techniques of analysing natural water and aquatic sediments. It starts from the identification processes of natural ingredients and ends in mineralogy and diffraction methods. Hands-on training in chemical and physical analysis is also provided in its practical counterpart. The paper has only 2 marks, 3 marks and 5 marks which are kept in three different sections. From all the sections one has to write 5 answers. Below are attached some of the previous year’s question papers.
