Hi, my son is 13 Feb 2013 born and is in LKG, but I came to know that CBSE has decided the age limit of 6 for std 1. So, shall I make him repeat LKG in next session? Please resolve my confusion.

The minimum age criteria required for the child to take admission in Class 1 in CBSE school is 5 years 6 months as on 31st March of the year of admission. Since, your son was born on 13th Feb, 2013 and in LKG, he will be 6 years old when he enters Class 1. So, he is eligible to get admission in Class 1 in CBSE school.

Age Criteria Required for 1st Class Admission in CBSE Schools:

Basically CBSE has not prescribed the required age of admission into 1st Class. So you may follow the minimum age that is prescribed by your State Government.

In general, the minimum age required for getting admission into 1st Class of CBSE based schools is 5 years and the maximum age must not exceed 7 years. In general, any candidate must go through the below order in order to get good standard academic wise. If you can follow the below order, your son will be eligible for getting admission into 1st Class by the time he attains 5 years of age.

>> Nursery (Pre KG)

>> LKG

>> UKG

>> 1st Class...till 10th Class

Your child was born on 13th of February 2013 which means he is going to be four in Feb 2017.
According to the guidelines of CBSE to get admission in LKG a child must have attained the minimum age of three years so that while appearing for 10th examination he/she would meet the minimum (14 years) which is mandatory.

The age limit for joining Ist standard in CBSE Board is 5 years and six months to 6 years and 6 months. The school will decide some times, so you can contact the school for more details.
