Hello, i am 3rd year student of computer science engineering. And i am an average student of getting approx 65% marks in every sem exam. I want to know beside placement in IT field what all are the courses or what are the different categories of job vacancies in which i can try. I have thought of GATE exam after completing my engineering through which i will search job in some govt. offices. please help me what should i do, as i think there is not much time left for completing my engineering.

There are so many jobs available where you can apply after completition of your graduation.There should be no backlogs.If you are getting job through placement then take it.
Apart from that you can apply for different jobs in government as well as private.

1.Indian Navy

2.Indian Air Force

3.Bank Specialist Officer

4.Bank Probationary Officer

5.Indian Engineering Exam

6.Railway Job

7.Civil Service Exam

8.Combined Graduate Level Exam

9.Government companies like ONGC,SAIL,Bharat Petroleum etc

10.Private companies.

As you said you are an average student of computer science engineering, I think you should leave this kind of thought that you are average student because your marks never represents your knowledge. The thought of Gate is great you should try to give your best. Even this will help you for any kind of job that means if you qualify Gate then it will seem like you complete a step towards your job.
For a valid Gate score some companies recruite freshers through the interview.

After completion of your Engineering course, you can apply for jobs in government sector like police jobs, in railways. You can also apply for bank jobs like IBPS, SBI, etc.,. once the notification is released. It is best idea to crack GATE examination, if you get good score, you can get good job with high salary. So, if you are looking to crack GATE examination, I suggest you to prepare well for the GATE examination and get good score, so, that you can get good job in government sector.

Yes, you should surely prepare for your GATE examination and I am sure you will avail good job in government sector. However, apart from that you can also avail job in various different government sectors by appearing in various government examination such as;

> SSC.

> UPSC.

> IBPS, etc.

Apart from this you can also apply for various private sector jobs in various MNCs, keep on looking for the vacancies and apply for it as and when any such notification is released.
