Jorhat is a city in the Indian state of Assam and it was established as a state capital at the end of 18th century. The name of the city indicates the meaning of couple of market and as per its name, the city has two parallel markets namely Macharhat and Chowkihat on the western and eastern banks of the river of Bhogdoi. Jorhat Medical College came into existence in the year 2010 and it is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University. The MBBS course offered by the JMC is approved by the Medical Council of India with an intake capacity of 100 students per year. Out of the 100 seats available for the course, 85 seats are meant for state-candidates for which admission is done based on the State-level Common Entrance Examination, while remaining 15 seats are all-India seats for which marks secured by the candidates in All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test is taken into consideration.

Jorhat Engineering College is the second engineering college in the state of Assam to be established by the government of Assam. The college came into existence in the year 1959 and the institute offers AICTE approved Bachelor of Engineering course in the following branches of engineering:
