Peren District is a newly formed district in the state of Nagaland, after being bifurcated from the district of Kohima and it is the eleventh district of the state. The district of Peren is bounded by the District of Kohima to the east, Dimapur District, Karbi Anglong District and Dima Hasao Districtson the north-western and waster parts. The other boundary of the districts is the Tamenglong District of the state of Manipur. The district has the city of Peren as its headquarters and it has some popular rivulets flowing through it. The district is spread over an area of 2300 km2.

This college came into existence in the year 1987 on the 14th of April and the college was established due to the joint efforts of general public, officers and public leaders with the objective of offering facility of higher education to the people of the district of Peren District, most of whom are educationally, economically and socially less advantaged. Right from its inception, the college has been meeting the higher education needs of the people as a single college in the district. Even though, the college began its journey as a private institution, it was take over by the government due to short of funds from the 1st of February 2006.
