Govt. Degree College, Prithvipur was established in 1987 by the State Govt. to provide higher education in backward rural areas. The college aims at imparting quality education to the students living in these backward areas so that they can qualify competitive examinations and be at par with the rest of the country. The college emphasizes at character as the highest value. This college has materialized the dreams of many living in such rural areas who are deprived of such education. They emphasize on character as the highest value This College is not just a centre for education but also looks into overall personality development of the students.

Development of College:

The college has a supportive administrative staff and experienced and motivated faculty. The college has various committees working for development of the College in different areas. The various Committees are development committee, Audit Committee, Cultural activities committee, Student Union, Discipline committee, Anti Ragging committee, Admission committee, Teacher parents committee, career guidance committee, IT committee and Sports Committee etc. the college has 120 seats. The college is running in 4 rooms right now however the State Govt. has sanctioned money and land to the college and PWD will soon start the construction after which students will get more classrooms in their own college.

Library:

The College has a very small yet worth it library where it has 3500 books.

Career Guidance Cell:

The College has a Career Guidance Cell with the name of Vivekanand which arranges lectures, workshops and seminars on different topics to help students to choose their subjects and job. This cell provides competitive magazines like Employment News, Pratiyogita Darpan and Rojgar Nirman  etc. along with National as well as International Newspapers to students. Some of the students have been placed with the help of Vivekanand Career Guidance Cell.

Scholarship:

Since this college is primarily to provide higher education to the students of rural areas it gives scholarships to people in merit list. It also provides special scholarships to the SC/ST and OBC students. The State Govt. aids the girl students of the village with 5000rs if they score 1st class in 12 standard.

Co- Curriculum Activities:

The major co- curriculum activities that the college holds are Dance, Music, Drama, Arts, NSS and various sports activities for the overall development of the students.
