Profile:

Indian Coast Guard was established on August 18, 1978. It is one of the four branches of the Indian Armed Forces. There are around five thousand employees working in the force. The major objective of the force is to gaurd the maritime interests of Republic of India. Indian Coast gaurd comes under the control of Ministry of Defence. The force was initially proposed by the Indian Navy in order to provide non military maritime services to the country.
